Today we are going to do some exercises with randomness and improvision, so be ready to participate. First though I want to mention that if there is a general idea associated with randomness, this is not it. I imagine that a very popular connotation would be random acts of kindness. RAC are lovely, however, and I encourage that practice, but I am talking about the randomness that comes straight from the unknown.

In fact my favorite thing about randomness is that it originates in the deepest recesses of the mind. Somehow it is a reflection of yourself, I beleive. Now sometimes something may appear to be random, when it really isn't. Like when something seems to have just popped into your mind.

On occasion when I think about stuff , I like to keep track of how my thoughts flow, and how I arrive at different thoughts or ideas, usually about the past (I don't know why). For instance at Taco Bell on Tuesday, I looked at a picture and then the next thing I know I am thinking about how intuition is a skill I make use of in my life. Seems random. But then I was like wait, let me remember how I arrived at this idea. First I looked at a picture on the wall when I sat down. I'm in Taco Bell, so you know that they gotta have some Spanish style decorations up in there. This picture depicted a few stucco style homes in a sun dried desert. I thought................

............."Ugh, it would be so disheartening to have to live in a place so drab, and beaten down by the sun. Wow, you know, people actually find those short funky homes and the sun scorched sand of the desert beautiful. Man, Molly(my best friend)'s mom loves the desert--she thinks that it is beautiful. We (me and her mom) are alike in many ways, but I would say that we part ways on this. I remember when my dad said we (me and my dad) part ways. We were in the kitchen and I was demonstrating some fencing moves I had learned in class. Yea, I remember that he asked me if I liked fencing, and I said yes. He said, 'That's where you and I part ways'. Fencing was pretty fun. I remember the first day. The teacher thought that I was going to be very good, because I was able to block so many of my opponets advances (I wasn't that great tho). You know, when someone aims to hit me, I never focus directly on the incoming strike, but I just kinda use my general awareness of the entire situation at hand and react with a measure of intuition. Wow, you know, that does characterize me pretty well."..............

Alas, the beginning followed a direct line of thought to the end and there was really no randomness involved.
Sometimes randomness is a reality. Sometimes thoughts DO just pop into your head. On to the exercises!

"Some moods can not be expressed in any other way, except through jazz music"----meekythegeek

This one kinda involves jazz music. We are going to get into the groove of improvision like jazz musicians and singers do. As if a funky and sultry jazz tune filled the room, in its typical rich rhythmatic way, join in on the random jazz chantings and vibings with me. Feel free to make up your own sounds, for that is the objective of this exercise. It's like.....skibbadee-bop-doo-wop-ba-dada-beep-beep-da-da. Whoah-oh-oh-yea--biddie-bop-shoe-wopdo-wop-shibbidy-boo-booboo-boo. Biddie-ba-ba-say-whoah-oh-yeah.........
Ok that was silly. And you are a silly-willy if you even took part in that. You prolly didn't, so I must applaud you for remaining calm and posied, and unwilling to succomb to such uncoolness--sike.

I admit, that was not completely random. For it was scripted and it did follow the guidelines of words and sounds which resonate, rhyme and flow together. Even more, you may have followed my example all together. It's cool tho, now you are ready for the next and most random exercise.

This one is very useful to relax, or even meditate. I have never used it for either of the aforementioned, but hey! it sounded good. Actually, I have used it to help me go to sleep when I have been restless. So it's good for something.

Basically I close my eyes and allow words to pop into my mind (sometimes word pairs or phrases--I don't know why). I wait and then I begin to wonder, "Gee is a word going to pop into my mind or what?". And then, there it is--water vapor--comes to mind. I think, whoah! where did that come from? "That one doesn't count", I say to myself, "You made it up". Then I think, "Hey it does count, it doesn't matter how I arrive at the word(s)". Then they just keep coming, and every one that comes to mind just tickles me. It just fascinates me, as I wonder where in the heck it came from. Pure random nonsense, straight from the deepest darkest recesses of the mind-WOW. It’s madness I tell you.

One time I did catalog the experience when I was tired, and I was able to write it down before I fell back asleep. It went..........”water vapor, volatile substance, common good, distraction, space, touchdown, lay down, they always have perfume, there is a major breech, I look for all of us, the humanities, humidified”.........

And that my friends is looking madness directly in the face. It never ceases to amaze me. Anyway, it is fun and I hope that you try it some time. Peace out!
